An “Entrepreneur in Residence” is a unique role within a venture capital firm. Not all VC firms have EIR’s on their team, and typically the role is transitory rather than permanent in nature.
Healy Jones at Atlas Ventures has posted an excellent three part series on the Startable blog he co-authors, which provides very useful context on the nature of the typical EIR’s role as well as tips for entrepreneurs who might be pitching EIR’s in the context of raising funding from VCs. Certainly a must read for entrepreneurs who might find themselves in this position.
